GEIGER · BLOCK 9

THE KIT

REAL RECORDINGS

The dosimeter runs on real Eberline E-120 clicks, from sparse ticks to a dense rattle that chokes near a strong source, and the whole block is built from CC0 field recordings resampled to 22 kHz.

BUILT FRESH

Every floor is generated from a PSX-era apartment kit: flats, kitchens, bathrooms, storerooms and plant rooms behind real doors, along a corridor that grows the higher you climb. Some floors are something else entirely: maintenance levels, archives, shelters, clinics and laboratories.

FLOOR CONDITIONS

A floor can arrive in a state of its own: the power out, the structure come apart, the ceiling down, every door shut, fewer but far stronger sources, a leak, a freeze, a dead stretch of corridor, or a floor somebody already stripped.

READING A FLOOR

Sources have signatures: a tight point, a broad smear, a pulse with long quiet gaps, one that fades. Contamination follows a story, down a trail, through the kitchens or into the cupboards, and the notes residents left behind are sometimes right.

THE AVTOMAT

An oxblood vending kiosk in every corridor sells pills, batteries, flares and a contamination scan that marks what is within reach, with one item cheap on any given floor, plus four fittings that change how you work: a lead apron, a dynamo cell, a meter calibration and a directional probe.

THE FIELD PACK

Eight slots, more with pouches. Stowing is never a radiation test: anything loose goes in, a contaminated piece keeps dosing you, and if it is killing you, look down and tip the whole pack out.

DAILY SHIFT

The same building for everyone until midnight UTC: the same floors, the same sources, the same stores.

OTHER LIQUIDATORS

Die on a floor and another player may find you there on their own shift: a skeleton by the furniture you fell beside, your dosimeter, your card and your pack if nobody has emptied it. Take their card to tag them for collection. A cheated run leaves nobody behind.

RECOVERY SHIFT

A shift that goes up after the ones who did not come back. The lobby board becomes a recovery order of names, floors and how long they have been lying there, and each one collected pays a small fee.

AN HONEST PS1 LOOK

A low virtual resolution in whole pixels, 15-bit colour with ordered dithering, retro lighting, crunchy ambient occlusion and bounce light on the same grid, and dithered light shafts with dust drifting through them. Presets and every switch in Options.

ACCESS

Keyboard, mouse or controller. Captions name every sound with how far off and which way it is, the probe can toggle instead of being held, and the screen static, grain, vignette and pixel filter can each be turned down or off.

ONE LIQUIDATOR

Single player, always. Your service record keeps the best run, the work done and what you found, sealed so hand-edited numbers are stamped void.
